Who We Are

Mary Jane Reed

Mary Jane Reed is recognized and respected as a business leader and senior human resources executive with proven skills and documented successes in corporate mergers, change management and leadership and organizational development. She is known for her integrity, creativity, leadership, teamwork and strategic business focus.

Following 33 years of business experience with Verizon and Sierra Pacific Resources where she served as Vice President of Human Resources, Ms. Reed relocated to Virginia to co-found Goodwood Partners, LLC, focusing on leadership development and strategic human resources initiatives. In 2004, she formed an alliance with The Leader’s Edge, a nationally recognized firm specializing in the training and development of executive and high-potential women.

During her business career she achieved noteworthy success in varying disciplines including customer service training, call center operations, stakeholder management, business process engineering, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, organizational and leadership development, labor relations, executive coaching and human resources management.

As a senior executive during the past 10 years, Ms. Reed designed, led and implemented strategic restructuring initiatives, merger integrations, succession planning and competency and cultural assessments. She acted as Chief Compliance Officer in conjunction with the implementation of a renewed business code of conduct. While at Verizon, she was selected as a member of a task force that enabled the Governor of West Virginia to restructure and streamline the State’s executive branch. She has served as a confidential counselor and coach to senior leadership including CEO’s.

Her numerous business successes include strong labor union partnerships with whom she negotiated contracts that included industry-leading incentive pay programs. She was among the first to introduce multi-media training and inter-active performance improvement tools into a major corporation.

Ms. Reed has achieved life time certification as a Senior Human Resources Professional and is an Etiquette and Protocol Consultant licensed by The Protocol School of Washington. She is also a member of the Society of Human Resources Professionals and served as President of the HR Leadership Forum, an affiliate of the HR Planning Society. She is certified in the leadership Hogan Assessments and is frequent contributor and speaker at business forums and has served as program and conference chairs for several industry and professional conventions.

Mrs. Reed received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. She has also attended executive development programs at the University of Virginia’s Darden School, Wharton and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
